Chinese excuses

My friend Hillary's stay in China (and her trip to Mongolia in particular) is letting her write the best excuses:

• "Hi Bess, Sorry for the late reply. I was in Inner Mongolia the past few days and didn't have internet access."
• "Hey Reid, Sorry to get back to you so late. I was in the middle of the desert."
• Sorry I wasn't in my room earlier, "I was in a riot in Tiananmen."
• "Sorry [I missed your call]. I was at dead mao."
• I "can't [go to lunch]. I'm on the great wall."
